The Martin Family Story

    Rooted in Agriculture

    For the Martin family, farming stretches back generations to agricultural roots in Switzerland. Long before establishing Peel Meat Packers, the family raised livestock, worked the land, and built a way of life around agriculture.

    Humble Beginnings (1991)

    In 1991, former dairy farmer LeRoy B. Martin saw a local need for dependable processing services. He built a small kill floor and cutting room in the corner of his drive shed. He began by processing cattle for family and friends. As other local abattoirs closed, word spread, prompting LeRoy to expand the original shed into a larger cooler, barn, and kill floor.

    A Second Generation (2002-2015)

    In 2002, LeRoy’s 14-year-old son, Delmer, joined the business full-time to learn the operations from the ground up. To meet growing demand, the family constructed a brand-new plant in 2004. By 2015, Delmer took over management of the meat operations, guiding Peel into the wholesale market while LeRoy focused on the family farm.

    Expansion and Modernization (2016-2022)

    Growth accelerated with a major cooler addition in 2016 that doubled facility capacity. Between 2021 and 2022, Peel constructed a modern animal holding facility. This expansion improved cattle housing, streamlined animal movement, upgraded the unloading area, and introduced ear-tag scanning to ensure strict livestock traceability.

    The Next Generation (2025-Present)

    In 2025, Delmer's 14-year-old son, Ben, joined the kill floor, marking the third generation to learn the family trade firsthand. Peel continues to invest in the future, recently installing an advanced cutting table to maximize processing efficiency for customers.
    From a single drive-shed corner to a high-capacity modern facility, equipment and buildings change, but our multi-generational foundation remains the same.

Current Facilities and New Developments

As we grow, we are continually innovating and looking to improve.  We have recently installed a new modern cutting room and ERP system to include full traceability.  We actively share grading and yield information with our farm partners so that all can benefit from the shared knowledge.
